Burning Fat With the Cabbage Soup Diet?

May 23rd, 2009
Because the cabbage soup diet is associated with high fat burning properties, it's really well known as a quick fix that will help you lose weight quickly.

Here are a couple questions I have about this diet.

Why hasn't anyone owned up to creating this diet?

And more importantly, why do people still go on this diet when dieticians disapprove of it because of extreme calorie and nutritional restrictions?

Let me give you a summary of what this cabbage soup diet entails. You stuff your face with cabbage on day 1 of the diet, on day 2, day 3, day 4, day 5, day 6 and day 7. You're allowed to have some fruit, a couple of potatoes and a tiny bit of beef. Mmm, good. That's about it. Sounds great doesn't it?

If this diet does happen to work for anyone, it's only because of the extreme calorie reduction which isn't healthy anyway. You're actually sabotaging your metabolism and setting yourself up for failure.

If you're planning on losing weight for a wedding in two weeks, you might drop a few pounds by going on this ridiculous diet, but you sure won't be feeling good on the day of the wedding. And as soon as you have a piece of that wedding cake, you'll add those pounds back on within the hour!

The next time you hear of a diet that claims you can lose a large amount of weight in a small amount of time, take that information with the smallest grain of salt.

Burning fat efficiently takes a combination of good nutrition, cardiovascular exercise, and strength training. As unfortunate as it sounds, losing weight takes time and hard work. If there was a magic formula or pill, believe me, I would have it.

But when it comes to the cabbage soup diet, my opinion is that you should cross it right off your list of weight loss strategies.
